29th December 1968, Sunday Iran, leaving Tehran

The day before we had discovered a Catholic Church obviously built for the benefit of the embassies standing nearby so at 7.30 we went by cab to mass and it was enjoyable, the mass in Latin and the gospel and sermon in English. For me it was a reminder of the promises of prayers for those at home but I am hopelessly lost in doubt at the present time to really pray. Perhaps one day soon I will find the real answer to these doubts.
At one we were on our way, a long run through the mountains falling  into the salt desert. MC was obviously ill, complaining of a pain in his back which steadily grew worse as the day turned into night.

[Tehran to Zaadin 500 Rials. 1.00 Sunday; arriving 1200 midnight Monday 36 hours.]
